The Court Theatre

The main contractor Hawkins engaged Offsite Design in DigiBuild™ capacity leading the technical coordination and shop drawings during the pre-construction phase.

This included identifying, tracking, and solving issues, not just for off-site manufacture of timber but also on-site assembly of the structure in general. Offsite Design worked closely with KOBE Construction, the mass timber installer on this project, to develop and optimise a methodology for install. Once finished, factory-ready models were handed to the mass timber supplier so no further shop drawing was required.

This is the last of the Christchurch post-quake anchor projects and a much anticipated addition to the local entertainment and performing arts precinct.

“As Project Director, I personally found Offsite Design’s approach refreshing and extremely beneficial to the team and the project. Witnessing the accuracy and level of tolerance that was worked to, gave us as the main contractor, the confidence in a tight programme, eliminating site issues that otherwise would have caused delays and rework.”
