Traditional south pacific fale, built from curved and turned glulam and round timber poles
The complex geometry and remote construction site meant prefabrication was the most attractive way to deliver this traditional south pacific structure.
A deceptively simple symmetry cleverly conceals modelling, fabrication and assembly challenges where curved and turned beams intersect. The curved hoops featuring a non-constant radius show off the impressive possibilities and millimetre precision of one of few 6-axis CNC machines in New Zealand.
